The Top 10 Movies of 2024 - And Some Under the Radar Entries to Check Out

My ten favorite films of the past year, plus five more I think are well worth seeking out.

After doing the usual scrambling to catch up and watch a few missing pieces as the year ended, I finally ranked my Top 10 of 2024 this week. It’s a somewhat random group of movies, which makes me happy. There were some real gems this past year, some of which were big surprises I never would have expected to resonate in the way they have.

In addition (and to help myself formulate my Top 10), I’ve ranked every single 2024 release I’ve seen on my Letterboxd account. And of course, there are still a few more movies left I need to track down, meaning, to quote The Iron Claw, “The rankings can always change!”

Besides those top ten picks in the video above, this also felt like a good place to spotlight a few (somewhat) hidden gems among the films of 2024 that didn’t make my list. And no, I’m not just choosing the movies I have ranked 11-15 or such, but a few others that stand out to me as notably underseen and/or worthy of a bigger spotlight.
