The lights are so lit. The curtain is so raised. The Sabrina is so Carpenter.

It’s been a constant refrain for years now: Why can’t Disney figure out what to do with the Muppets?

The funny thing is, sometimes you’ll hear people say “Why is Disney not doing anything with the Muppets?” though the truth is, there have been many attempts at using them in many ways for quite awhile. It’s just that some felt rather ill-conceived, while a few were solid but just didn’t find an audience. Still, there have been some standouts, including 2011’s hit movie The Muppets and the Disney+ 2021 special, Muppets Haunted Mansion. But still, it’s been a pretty scattershot approach and nothing has really stuck or been maintained.

Which is why I think so many of us Muppets faithful are crossing our fingers for how the newest Muppet project is received, because it’s one that goes back to the basics in a very direct way… By simply giving us, after several decades away, The Muppet Show!
