Super7 Founder on Making Toys Licensed From Other Toy Companies
Brian Flynn on expanding upon the toy possibilities for the likes of G.I. Joe and Dungeons & Dragons.
Since the company was founded in 2001, Super7 has gotten bigger and bigger, creating collectibles, toys and apparel for major properties like Back to the Future, Peanuts, Godzilla, Beavis and Butt-Head, and so much more - not to mention many action figures based off of real life musical acts like Jimi Hendrix, Beastie Boys, Motörhead.
But one thing that also stands out is how many toys they’re now making based off of… toys! As in properties that began as toys and continue to be owned by major toy companies like Hasbro, who have licensed the likes of G.I. Joe, Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, Power Rangers and Jem and the Holograms to Super7 in order to make their own lines of figures and collectibles that are separate from any the owner themselves are releasing.
When I spoke to Super7 founder Brian Flynn last month, and noted that a few years ago, few would have thought such a licensing deal would happen, he replied, with a chuckle, “I would have never thought that, to be fair.”
