Ranking All the Houses at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights 2024
This was a particularly great year for HHN, with the likes of A Quiet Place, Insidious, and Ghostbusters joined by several highly creative original concept houses.
As I noted in a post last week, I’m a huge fan of Universal’s annual Halloween Horror Nights event, and have attended the versions at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort for many years now. As a horror movie fan, HHN is a blast, bringing both familiar stories and brand new concepts to life before your eyes, allowing you to really feel like you’re stepping inside a horror film. (and I totally get why that’s the last thing some people would want to do, but some of us are just weird like that…)
Last week, I was in Orlando for the kick off of their Horror Nights, attending the media event on opening night, before returning the next night for one more look at everything HHN 33 — yes, it’s been going on that long! — has to offer. And what I found was pretty terrific. This is a really great year for HHN Orlando, with not one dud to be found among the ten houses.
But of course, they can’t all be equally great and indeed, while there are a couple that are less thrilling, amongst the many standouts, some of these houses truly rise to the top. So which HHN houses are the very best in 2024? I ranked all ten in the video below, including footage from all of them for some examples of what stood out and why. HHN Orlando has some truly impressive production design and sets each year, and this time there were some wonderful and memorable moments in the new houses, from a tavern of human-eating goblins to a lethal Santa Claus’ lair to the Ghostbusters’ iconic firehouse headquarters.
I’ll be attending HHN at Universal Studios Hollywood this weekend for their opening night and will be ranking those houses as well in the days to come, which includes some that are only on the west coast this year, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Truthfully, my feet have barely gotten over how sore they were from all the walking done at HHN Orlando last weekend, on top of the Universal theme parks during the day during the trip, but Horror Nights is worth some pain, dang it…
