Chucky's Don Mancini Talks Season 3's Cliffhanger, how a M3GAN Crossover Could Work and Wanting Chucky Back in Theaters
The creator of Chucky dives into spoilers about how the season wrapped up and what the future might hold for everyone's friend to the end.
Note: FULL SPOILERS for the Chucky Season 3 finale follow.
Chucky’s third season wrapped up in a big way, as the White House – where the season had been set – went up in flames, while Chucky escaped back into the world by possessing the body of Jake (Zackary Arthur). But in a true “Wait, there’s more!” situation, the final 15 minutes than brought us into a whole new scenario, as the possessed Jake/Chucky, Devon (Björgvin Arnarson) and Lexi (Alyvia Alyn Lind) traveled to the home of Wendell Wilkins (John Waters), the man who invented the Good Guy doll.
In the wild minutes that followed, quite a lot went down, as Wilkins turned out to be a rather nefarious character himself, who had aligned with Lexi’s little sister, Caroline (Carina London), leasing to the two helping transfer Chucky back into a doll body, before Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) showed up and also was transferred back into a doll. Oh, and then Nica (Fiona Dourif) discovered that Jake, Devon and Lexi were now either transferred into or transformed into dolls as well! Whew! Per usual, Chucky keeps things interesting, suffice to say.
I spoke to Chucky’s creator, Don Mancini, about the events in the finale and where they could lead next in a still hypothetical Season 4, as Mancini and his collaborator await word on whether the show is renewed or not. We also discussed having Brad Dourif, who’s always done such fantastic work as the voice of Chucky, actually physically play the character in a bigger way than he ever has this season, the latest death(s) for Devon Sawa's revolving characters, and how the series is now operating in a very different world from the one we live in, burned down White House included.
Plus, after discussing the potential of a Chucky / M3GAN crossover a few months back, Mancini follows up with how he sees a meeting between the two going now that a scene in Season 3 actually had Chucky watch M3GAN and let his opinion be known about the new doll on the block. And we talk about the new Chucky movie that’s in the early stages of development and the potential for it to bring the character back to movie theaters for the first time since 2003’s Seed of Chucky, after the sixth and seventh movie were released direct to Blu-ray. (Yes, the 2019 Child’s Play remake made without Mancini’s involvement played in theaters, but come on, we all know that wasn’t the real Chucky…)
